Villa Avalon II

We stayed in Sept/Oct 2019 for 7 nights with 6 adults and 7 kids in Villa 1 & 2. The staff were superb. Everything was easy and the house and garden kept in immaculate condition. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble - even helping us solve a credit card left accidentally at a beach club 1.5 hr away on the final day of our stay! Our food was cooked and served in house and never disappointed. The pool and garden space is stunning and provided a great space o hang with the kids who lived in the pool for most of our stay. We had a yoga teacher come to the villa - all effortlessly arranged but the staff - and had no trouble getting taxis and transport organised whenever we needed. Absolutely perfect place for a big relaxation group holiday. Main drawback was the location of the villa. There isn't much in the way of easy walking to shops and restaurants, and the access to the beach - which isn't an especially nice one - is via the current derilict La Laguna nightclub over some slightly precarious walkways. But with lots of little kids in tow, we weren't up for much walking in the warm weather anyway.

Hidden away at the end of a bumpy track in Canggu, Villa Avalon had everything we could want for a week long break in Bali. Our not so small family with three kids aged four, three and a little under one had a wonderful time in our private spot of paradise. We took Avalon II, the two bed villa with its own pool and outdoor living area. The walled garden setting was perfectly presented and a great space for the monsters to tear around. Having our own pool to dip in and out of when everyone needed to cool off was brilliant. The outdoor living area is perfect for pottering in the day and relaxing with a Bintang in the evening. Lovely stuff The staff take care of everything. The whole place was constantly spotless. They're always cheerful, great with the kids, and a pleasure to be around. We sampled most of the menu and would recommend the seafood BBQ as our #1 choice. Couple of bits of admin to bear in mind with the kids. The two bedrooms both open out onto the garden so we chose to split up and sleep with the kids. Personal choice down to your own level of general paranoia! And the pool is beautifully set in the garden but it did mean with a crawler who can't swim we had to get a fence in (which the team at Avalon proactively provided)...very practical, did the job, just inevitably detracts from the aesthetics. Small price to pay for not having to fish the baby out of the pool every five minutes. If the villa wasn't enough we found plenty nearby. We'd chosen the accommodation rather than location so had take a bit of blind shot at Canggu for our family holiday. Bit of admin to start, walking along the beach was an option but out into the streets not really as not so much pavement around when got back to the main road. Taxis easy to get and all within min fare distance of about 40-50k rupiah. Drivers always courteous and helpful getting all our masses of kit in and out of the car. We generally called a bluebird taxi. Hailed a couple down, only one local taxi tried to charge closer to 100k rupiah. No dramas. For groceries and bits and bobs just a short walk 5 mins up road to get to local supermarket. That far was easy enough even with the two older boys in tow one day Anyways, first for the beach. It's right on the doorstep but with three young kids we weren't going to be doing much surfing and those currents don't make swimming in the sea an option. Still a great spot though. Half day digging in the black sand on the beach was fun for me and the boys. It's not clean but I found it a really nice spot with the huge surf crashing in and the kids making black sand castles. We found two great restaurants that were kid friendly for lunch, Biku and Watercress. The latter a recommendation from another resident at the Avalon villa's, and he was right - the watercress salad was spectacular! We found the Canggu club up the road. Members club that'd give you a day pass. Think David Lloyd or equivalent gym back home but with a water park, Bowling alley and trampolining centre attached. And then very randomly we found the Bali equestrian club. I'm not horsey but when you throw in a quiet setting, horses for the kids to watch, a cheeky pony ride and use of kids playpark and pool when spend just 50k rupiah per kid in the cafe, it was spot on for a couple of half days worth for the three terrors. Top it all off with awesome beach bar la Laguna literally next door. Big grassy area for the kids to run around in, and so many options to sit it took the hostesses a good 10 minutes to seat each arrival as they pondered the plethora of views and comfy seats. Great cocktails, staff awesome with the kids, and a setting you don't get tired of all week. Recommend the secret garden cocktail with just enough gin to enjoy yourself but not so much that you can't then handle dinner time for the kids. Fabulous holiday, totally relaxing, great villa in a great spot.
